Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) will reach the end of support on July 12, 2011. From that date onward, Microsoft will no longer provide support or free security updates for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). In order to stay secure and continue support you must upgrade to Service Pack 2 (SP2).
For customers with IT departments, today we are making SP1 available on the WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) catalog, which makes it available through management tools including WSUS, System Center and others. These tools make it easy for IT professionals to deploy SP1 in their environments in an automated fashion and at their own pace.
Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 helps keep your PCs and servers on the latest support level. It also provides ongoing improvements to the Windows Operating System (OS), by including previous updates delivered over Windows Update as well as continuing incremental updates to the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 platforms based on customer and partner feedback. This enables organizations to deploy a single set of updates.

I’m hearing from a couple of my contacts that Microsoft plans to announce on February 9 that Service Pack (SP) 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 has finally crossed the finish line.
(There have been a few earlier reports that SP1 was done and out, but today marks the official RTM announcement, my sources say. I’ve asked Microsoft officials for comment, but no word back so far.)

The first service pack for Windows 7 has been sent to original equipment manufacturers, according to reports.
The move was reported in a post on TechNet by Microsoft’s Russian Windows Visualisation team. Microsoft launched the first release candidate (RC) for Windows 7 SP1, and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, in October 2010, saying that it would be the only RC prior to the software being finalised and made available to manufacturers. The company also promised that SP1 would arrive in the hands of users in the "first half" of 2011.
A blocking tool is available for organizations that would like to temporarily prevent installation of Service Pack updates through Windows Update.
This tool can be used with:
Microsoft announced the Release Candidate (RC) of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to the public. This RC signals the last public beta build to be released prior to the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) final release. As previously announced, the only new features added to the SP1 are the Windows Server 2008 R2-related virtualization technologies, Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX – please see the Windows Server Division Weblog for more details. These features will help customers who choose to deploy Windows through Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) by enabling a more scalable and rich user experience.
While Windows 7 SP1 will enable PCs to take advantage of these server-based features to provide a more scalable and richer VDI experience for end users, there are no additional new features specific to Windows 7.

SP1 whets the appetite of administrators who want to use Exchange Management Console (EMC) and Exchange Control Panel (ECP) to administer various features. More and more features are exposed in the EMC and ECP, helping Exchange Administrators to manage their Exchange 2010 infrastructure.
Exchange 2010 SP1 brings a long list of improvements. This blog focuses mostly on the GUI enhancements both in EMC and ECP.

Microsoft has released a beta refresh of its Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack (SP) 1 to selected PC and Technology Adoption Program (TAP) partners, company officials confirmed on August 30.
Microsoft made the refresh build — the build number of which is said to be Build No. 7601.17077 — available to a select group of testers on August 27. There’s no word (so far) on whether there is anything new in that refresh.
You have been eagerly waiting, and we have been working hard over the summer to deliver the latest Exchange Server 2010 enhancements as soon as possible. I am extremely happy to announce the availability of Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1, ready for download here.

The first service pack (SP1) for Windows 7 will emerge in the first half of 2011 according to Microsoft.
SP1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 will also be released in the same timeframe, according to the company’s TechNet Evaluation Center website.
