IE9 for Windows Phone

This week in New York, Andy Lees introduced Windows Phone “Mango” to the world, which includes IE9 Mobile. IE9 Mobile represents a huge jump forward for us on the mobile platform, effectively unifying our underlying code base for the browser with the desktop version.

Updating IE9 through Windows Update

Since its availability on March 14th, IE9 has been available for manual download and we are pleased by the early and continued enthusiasm for IE9.  We are seeing not only strong customer and business demand, but some of the highest web and application compatibility rates in IE history, not to mention all the sites that are taking advantage of HTML5 and IE9’s Windows 7 integration.

Evolving Hotmail with IE9 desktop notifications

One way we are evolving Hotmail is to help you do more with your email right from the inbox. Another way is to bring the features you expect from traditional desktop mail experiences into Hotmail. With Internet Explorer 9, we can now tailor Hotmail and deliver application-like experiences on Windows 7.

Is this Microsoft’s new Internet Explorer 9 interface?

image Microsoft has delivered four developer previews of Internet Explorer (IE) 9 so far, but has yet to show off the new interface for its next-generation browser. That is expected to happen on September 15, during Microsoft’s beta launch event in San Francisco.

But maybe users won’t have to wait until then to get a glimpse of what’s coming. Microsoft Russia’s press site, on August 25, posted information and a photo that seem to be connected to the coming IE 9 beta.

HTML5, Modernized: Fourth IE9 Platform Preview Available for Developers

IE9 started from the premise that the modern web will deliver HTML5 experiences that feel more like native applications than sites. Building on hardware-accelerated SVG, canvas, video, audio, and text, developers will use the power of the whole PC to achieve great performance. On the modern web, developers will use the same markup across different HTML5 browsers.

A Closer Look at Internet Explorer 9 Hardware Acceleration Through Flying Images

One of our objectives with Internet Explorer 9 is taking full advantage of modern PC hardware to make the browser faster. We’re excited about hardware acceleration because it fundamentally improves the performance of websites. The websites that you use every day become faster and more responsive, and developers can create new classes of web applications through standards based markup that were previously not possible. In this post, we take a closer look at how hardware acceleration improves the performance of the Flying Images sample on the IE9 test drive site.

IE 9: First look at the new JS Engine

The IE team is busy working on the next version of the world’s most popular browser. IE 8 is the most widely used browser on Windows. IE 9 is currently in the oven and the IE team is ready to talk about what they’re working on. Here, JavaScript engine team members John Montgomery, Steve Lucco and Shanku Niyogi give us an early look at the new JS engine that will ship with IE 9. As of the interview, it is on par with the latest perfomance numbers of the latest Firefox beta and making progress in catching up to Chrome’s V8. Again, this is a really early look at where the JS engine is and where it’s going (and what they’ve done, architecturally, to speed up IE’s JS engine). Enjoy!
