Citrix launches XenClient 2

Citrix is a pioneer in the desktop virtualization market, and this week, the company announced its second generation XenClient and a new product called XenClient XT.

What we are taking about here is a bare metal client hypervisor, which enables the kind of desktop virtualization in which multiple virtual machines run on the PC processor without an intermediary layer.

Citrix XenServer 5.6

Citrix has just released XenServer 5.6. The new XenServer 5.6 delivers enhanced virtualization management capabilities for both the free XenServer, as well as the more advanced Enterprise and Platinum editions. Citrix also introduced a new low-priced XenServer Advanced Edition, making it easier for enterprise and cloud customers running free XenServer to add more advanced high availability and management capabilities at a fraction of the cost of competing solutions.

Citrix XenApp for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

As Microsoft introduces Windows Server 2008 R2, Citrix expects to release a final version of XenApp on Windows Server R2 in the first half of 2010. But you won’t have to wait that long. This fall, Citrix will release a Tech Preview version of XenApp for Windows Server 2008 R2 to showcase our complete application virtualization technology suite and deliver powerful solutions for our joint customers.

Citrix XenApp Feature Pack 2 – with virtualization

As if keeping track of the many similarly named products coming from Citrix Systems in the wake of its acquisition of virtualization upstart XenSource was not difficult enough, now Citrix is mixing and matching formerly separate technologies to give customers new ways to get centrally controlled applications out to corporate desktops.

With XenApp 5 Feature Pack 2, which debuts today, the product formerly known as Presentation Server (and embodying the terminal services method of giving PC users access to server variants of PC applications hosted on servers) gets a third way to stream applications down to end users.
