Microsoft delivers another beta build of next-gen Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft made available to testers this week a new beta build (2.0.522.0) of its next release of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), the company’s free anti-virus/anti-malware product for Windows.

On November 9, Microsoft began pushing out via Windows Update a “beta refresh” of that product. (One of my readers said this technically is the Release Candidate build of the new MSE, but Microsoft officials are not calling it that publicly.)

Windows Small Business Server "7" and "Aurora" Preview

On Monday, July 11, 2010, Microsoft will finally reveal some news I’ve been itching to share for months: The company is splitting its Windows Small Business Server (SBS) line into two products. Both will be based on the Windows Server 2008 R2 codebase. But where the first of these products, currently codenamed Small Business Server "7," will logically replace existing, traditional SBS products, the other, currently codenamed "Aurora," goes in a far more exciting new direction.

Download Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta

Please Note: This early release of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta is not available for home users. The SP1 Beta does not provide new end-user features, and installation is not supported by Microsoft.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta helps keep your PCs and servers on the latest support level, provides ongoing improvements to the Windows Operating System (OS), by including previous updates delivered over Windows Update as well as continuing incremental updates to the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 platforms based on customer and partner feedback, and is easy for organizations to deploy a single set of updates.

Microsoft to deliver betas of Vail and Aurora servers next week?

It sounds like Microsoft is readying new beta builds of two low-end Windows Server releases — known as “Vail” and “Aurora” — to be released next week, timed with the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, according to my sources.

Vail is the next release of Windows Home Server. Aurora is a small business server based largely on the same code base as Vail. (There’s also a common framework, some kind of “client computer connector,” that extends across the two products, that is codenamed “Colorado.”)
